Founded in 1983 and affiliated to the CBSE, the school has grown into a full-fledged Senior Secondary School with more than 3000 students. MKU is a Statutory University established by the Govt, of Tamilnadu and recognized and funded by UGC and is a member of Association of Indian Universities. The Directorate of Distance Education of this University was established in 1971 and has a student strength of about 1.2 Lakhs. Ansar is one of the 73 study centres of MKU outside Tamilnadu. The centre offers undergraduate and post graduate courses under the distance education program of MKU. Currently, there are more than 5000 students registered in this centre for various courses. The campus is an accredited centre of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). The NIOS was established in 1989 by Ministry of Human Resource Development; Government of India, to cater to the educational needs of the children out of school, school drop-outs and socially and economically backward section of the learner population. Secondary and Senior Secondary course registrations, contact classes and examinations are being held by the institute in the Ansar campus.
